On July 1, 1969, Albert Middeke Sr. of St. Rose purchased what was then called Holtkamp’s Feed Mill. At that point the mill had storage space to hold 50 tons of ready-to-deliver rations, 48 tons of manufacturing ingredients, and grain storage of 20,000 bushels. The facility owned one five-ton bulk truck and employed four people. Much of the grain was delivered by the farmer to the mill, but in many cases the mill itself picked up the grain from local farms. Farmers would then either wait for the grinding service and take the completed product back to their farm, or the mill could deliver it.
In 1977, the name of the mill was officially changed to Tri-County Feed Mill, Inc. In 2004, Mr. Middeke turned over the business to his four children: Alvina, Mary, Ann, and Albert Jr. Today, as in the past, Tri-County Feed Mill provides a total service offering to local farmers. Tri-County now has four bulk delivery units with a total capacity of 47 tons. They can manufacture and deliver 180 tons of rations per day. They also have the capacity to store 180 tons of ready-to-deliver rations and are presently capable of storing 250 tons of manufacturing ingredients and 130,000 bushels of grain.
In the feed business for 80+ years, Tri-County Feed Mill produces premixes, concentrates, complete feeds, and custom rations. We also carry pet food as well as several types of specialty feed including rabbit, goat, sheep, quail, and horse feed.
